There are many layers to the coffee bean, and each one serves a purpose throughout the growing progression. When a coffee bean plant starts its life, it is grown as a large shrub or tree. The plant that the coffee bean grows on is usually kept at a height of 6 – 8 feet. When the plant has matured, the coffee bean begins to develop inside of the fruit. The fruit of the tree that bears the coffee bean is known as the “cherry”.
